Godfather of Harlem Cast, Characters & Plot (No Spoilers)
‘Godfather of Harlem’ is a TV show prequel to the film ‘American Gangster.’ The show integrates fiction and actual events to tell its own story of the tumultuous times of the criminal underworld in the 1960s. Several historical gangsters are showcased, with the main character being one of the most notorious mobsters in American history.
Forest Whitaker stars as the infamous crime boss, Bumpy Johnson. After spending ten years in prison, he’s welcomed back to streets controlled by the Italian mob. Bumpy must take back control of Harlem, but to do so, he has to take on the Genovese crime family, resulting in social upheaval and a mob war right at the time of the Civil Rights Movement.
To help regain control, Bumpy teams up with radical preacher Malcolm X. A brutal battle for the streets is started, including a war between the Genovese and Bonanno families.
